Vegan Instagrammers, and zero-waste shop owners, Sustainable Duo, have created a waste-free challenge with a twist.

To participate in Futuristic February, all you have to do is shop like you normally would for the month, but save all the waste you collect.

Then, on February 28, post a photo on social media with all your trash, tag Sustainable Duo, and use the hashtag #FuturisticFebruary.

The idea behind the challenge is to visually see how much waste can be accumulated in one given month, which will hopefully inspire people to be more conscious of how they shop.

'Let's raise some awareness on waste'

Sustainable Duo will be posting tips on their Instagram through the month, demonstrating how easy it is to make simple and sustainable swaps in your life to decrease your carbon footprint.

The couple announced the launch of Futuristic February to their followers on an Instagram photo captioned: "LET’S RAISE SOME AWARENESS ON WASTE."

A million plastic bottles a minute

According to OVO Energy, humans now buy a million plastic bottles a minute, which has devastating consequences for our oceans.

We used to get through 500 million plastic bags every week in the UK, which take between 500 and 1,000 years to decompose in landfill. However, since the introduction of the 5p bag, usage has dropped by a staggering 85 percent.
