Hsiung, who is the founder of Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) was removed from a Whole Foods store by police after asking a manager whether the company's meat is sourced from factory farms. He was subsequently charged with 'threatening bodily injury'.
The verbal exchange and Hsing's arrest were captured on a video that went viral, attracting more than 3.5 million views.
Hsiung is arrested
As a result of this and other protests, Whole Foods was granted a restraining order against 150 DxE activists including Hsiung.
In a statement to Plant Based News, Hsiung said: "Over the past four years, we've asked Whole Foods to sit down and discuss our findings, which are shocking and contradictory to everything the company claims about the treatment of animals at its farms."
A statement from Whole Foods about the restraining orders said: DxE members have repeatedly entered our stores and property to conduct demonstrations that disrupt customers and team members by blocking access to our aisles, departments, and cash registers, interfering with our business and putting the safety of both customers and team members at risk."
Plant Based News has contacted Whole Foods for comments regarding the dropped charges.
