Veganuary is experiencing its most successful year ever - with a staggering 150,000 sign-ups.

The charity - which encourages people to try veganism in January - has seen a huge increase on 2017's numbers, when around 60,000 took part.

The charity has made a number of high profile appearances this year on television and radio. Notably, Veganuary Co-founder Matthew Glover went on UK breakfast show This Morning last week.

He told show hosts Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford that he is primarily vegan for compassionate reasons, saying: "Witnessing some of the cruelty that happens on farms, I felt bad about that.

"My mother's family were butchers and meat traders, so I spent time in slaughterhouses, and I didn't like how animals were treated."

'Year of the vegan'

Veganuary Co-founder Matthew Glover told PBN: "We’re unbelievably happy that so many people are willing - and excited - to try vegan for the month, and we know that, for lots of them, this is just the start of their vegan adventure.

"Those 150,000 people are each doing an incredible thing as individuals but together they are achieving something truly monumental - and they give us real hope for a kinder world.

"We’d like to thank all our supporters who promote Veganuary, the former participants who have shared their stories and the wonderful organisations both in the UK and overseas who have encouraged their own supporters to take part.

"Together we are a force to be reckoned with.

"2018 is without doubt the year of the vegan."
