The important 200,000 global sign-up milestone was reached on January 4, just a week after the group celebrated 100,000 people signing the pledge – impressive figures given that only 3,300 in total took part for the first Veganuary in 2014.
With pledges now translated into six more languages – Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Swedish, Russian and Icelandic – Veganuary 2019 has gone truly international, partnering with pro-animal and environmental groups around the world to bring the campaign to more people.
Around 50 Veganuary events have been scheduled throughout India, for example, including food festivals, cooking competition, dog days out, music nights and a thousand kilometer road trip.
Every Veganuary Russia pledger will receive a huge vegan recipe book for free together with a month's meal plans. The first campaign in Spanish is being rolled out in Chile, Peru and Argentina, and Veganuary Japan will be the first campaign in an Asian language.
Pledgers in 13 countries can now look forward to a localized Veganuary experience.
In another first for 2019, pledgers in the UK can get up close and personal with the Veganuary team and vegan companies Booja-Booja, Follow Your Heart, One Planet Pizza, Pulsin, and Tideford Organics Ltd when the Veganuary 2019 Road Trip hits town, which started rolling on January 4 with a visit to Spital Fields.
The Road Trip will visit local, independent health food stores throughout the UK, where visitors will be invited to try free food samples and get help and advice from the Veganuary team. Today, the Road Trip is making stops at Food For Thought in Guildford and As Nature Intended in Chiswick.
Well-known animal advocate Chris Packham has already taken the pledge, joining Veganuary Ambassadors Derek Sarno of Wicked Healthy Food, Tammy Fry Kelly of Fry Family Food Co, British TV and radio presenter Sarah-Jane Crawford, Irish actor Evanna Lynch, world pole champion Terri Walsh and Bootstrap Cook Jack Munroe.
