Former Baywatch actor - and vegan activist - Pamela Anderson has announced plans to open a pop-up restaurant in France.

The eatery called La Table Du Marche, which will be in Saint-Tropez, is scheduled to open on July 4.

Led by French chef Christophe Leroy, it will share the premises with French hotel Moulins de Ramatuelle, and offer a new tasting menu every evening.

Dishes will include tomato tartare with goji berries, asparagus risotto, vegan burgers.

Anderson purposefully chose the Independence Day opening date.

The restaurant announcement is part of a much longer letter posted on her blog about WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who the star is believed to be dating. The post is titled 'Why My Heart Stands With Julian'.

Assange has spent the few years confined to the Ecudorian Embassy, after applying for asylum to avoid being extradited to Sweden and the US - where he could face various criminal charges. Now the Swedish charges have been dropped, she says there is no need to keep him confined to the small room.

Anderson writes: "Thinking of Julian makes me wonder, what is the sexiest quality in a man? Surely the sexiest qualities in a man are bravery and courage. Sexiness in a man is showing strength. Having convictions and having the courage to stand by them.

"Think of a man putting everything aside to stand up to bullies, to say enough is enough, to take a stand for justice and truth."

Anderson appealed to a number of international politicians, inviting them to the restaurant, to discuss what can be done to free Assange.

As well as an appeal to French President Emmanuel Macron, she reaches out to UK politician and Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn, calling him a 'decent' man.

She writes: "Jeremy, you and I share a compassion for animals. You and Julian both know how vicious the UK media can be, and how unjust the present government is.

"You are clearly a decent and fair man. When you come to power, you must rehabilitate the UK's reputation in Latin America!

"You must condemn the threat of the Cameron government to violate the Vienna Conventions, recognize the UN ruling that Julian is arbitrarily detained. Free Julian. It would be celebrated across the world, and show everyone that the UK intends to change its foreign policy."

Ever the animal activist, Anderson ends her letter with a heartfelt appeal for animals, telling people to stop 'torturing animals and eating them'.
