Vegan skater Meagan Duhamel has added to her medals with a bronze medal in the Winter Olympics pairs skating event.

Duhamel had already earned a Gold medal with a solid performance in the team event.

The Canadian vegan, who skates in pairs with Eric Radford, topped the podium with the Canadian team earlier this week after topping the scores with the long programme.

First ever

The two-stage event saw the pair in third after the short programme, a position which remained unchanged following a strong performance in the longer skate.

They are believed to have performed the first ever throw quad salchow in the Winter Olympics.

'Feels like gold'

Duhamel was delighted to podium, saying the third place 'feels like gold'.

Speaking about the whole event, she said: "Oh my God, just enjoying the moment. I couldn’t have dreamt it that much better.

"I mean, I could have dreamt it without my hands down on my triple Lutz [the biggest error made by the skater during the competition].

"But we came to the Olympics and we just delivered four amazing performances. Four out of four!"

Duhamel has been vegan since 2008 and is on the verge of retirement, having announced that this is her last season.

The vocal vegan previously adopted a dog rescued from the South Korean meat trade who lives with her in Toronto.
