Two vegan entrepreneurs are running a marathon in a bid to raise money for animals.

Mike and Joe Hill are the father and son co-founders of frozen pizza company One Planet Pizza. This weekend, they are swapping the kitchen for the road, as they take on the Liverpool Rock 'n' Roll Marathon on May 26.

They are fundraising for vegan charity Viva!, which is currently running its #MooFreeMay campaign this month, which encourages the British public to ditch dairy and try delicious dairy-free alternatives instead.

Training issues

The event is set to be tough after circumstances affected the Hills' training. Mike sustained a neck injury early on, which stopped him training for three months. As a result, the pair have only trained properly for a few weeks.

He attributes what he describes as his 'amazing recovery' to his plant-based diet.

Vegan runners

"I have done a few marathons before but never on just six weeks' training, and this is Joe's very first one, so its going to be a real challenge, but running for such a great cause is going to keep us going," Mike said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.

"Mike has run marathons in the past, but he's getting older now and is just recovering from an injury," added Joe. But I've never even imagined running this far before and especially with such little time to train. This won't be easy, but I reckon youth might just beat experience. Let's find out."
