Fora Foods has released a vegan butter made primarily from aquafaba - the viscous water in which chickpeas have been cooked - available to buy in the US nationwide.
Dubbed as FabaButter, the dairy-free alternative retails at $7.49 and is stocked in all Eataly stores across the States.
Brad Farmerie, the executive chef of PUBLIC restaurant in New York a Michelin-star recipient said FabaButter was: "The best vegan butter I've ever tried."
The company also state the vegan spread is environmentally-friendly, with a carbon footprint four times smaller that than of dairy butter. It also sources its aquafaba as a waste byproduct from hummus manufacturers.
Fora Foods, founded by Aidan Altman and Andrew McClure back in 2017, aims to 'move toward a more sustainable plant-based food system' by reinventing dairy-products with plant-based alternatives.
The company claims FabaButter is the first plant-based product that tastes and bakes just like butter, stating on its website: "Not only can you cook with it, but you can bake with it, melt it, and spread it in any application your culinary heart desires."
