Innovative motorcycle gear company Alien Moto has won an award from animal rights charity PETA for its vegan motorbike suit.
The Proggy Awards ('Proggy' is for 'progress') recognize animal-friendly achievements in commerce and culture.
The one-piece racing suit took seven years to develop.
According to PETA, the tech used to create the suit - described as 'alien skin technology' - is 'breakthrough'.
The outfit includes an anti-allergic mesh lining, exterior titanium shoulder and elbow guards, and triple-stitched seams, among other features.
It's breathable and waterproof, and it moves more freely than leather suits and provides maximum rider safety.
PETA Senior Manager of Corporate Projects, Yvonne Taylor, said: "Motorbike riders of all skill levels can benefit from slipping into this animal-free second skin.
"PETA is recognising Alien Moto for leading the industry and constructing a high-tech motorbike suit that protects racers without harming animals or the environment."
PETA adds: "Many animals killed for leather endure castration, branding, tail-docking, and dehorning, without painkillers, before some are skinned and dismembered alive, as shown in this video exposé of the leather industry.
"In addition, the global skins trade is notorious for harming the environment, from the methane emissions produced by cattle to the toxic tannery chemicals that pollute nearby water supplies."
A minimum of five percent of Alien Moto's proceeds from safety gear goes to helping injured motorcycle riders and to supporting animal-protection organisations.
