US Politician Introduces Resolution Encouraging Californians To Eat Plant-Based Food

Health professionals have applauded the move
The resolution lists the benefits of plant-based food

California Assembly member Ash Kalra (D-San José) has introduced a resolution encouraging Californians to include more healthy plant-based foods in their diet.

The resolution - ACR 279 - says the current world population is 7.6 billion people, and is projected to grow by 1.1 percent a year, with estimates reaching 8.6 billion people in 2030 and 9.8 billion by 2050. It adds: "Increased plant-based food production helps improve the world's ability to meet future food supply demands."

It also outlines the benefits of a vegan diet, saying 'making plant-based foods the emphasis of one’s diet has been proven to have a positive impact on the environment, individual health, and society as a whole, and all Californians are encouraged to include more plant-based foods in their diet."

The Physicians Committee [PCRM] - a nonprofit with 12,000 doctor members - has praised the move.

Director of Nutrition Education, Susan Levin, M.S., R.D., said: "Kudos to Assemblymember Ash Kalra for encouraging Californians to eat more plant-based meals.

"ACR 279 is just the prescription California needs to protect the health of both humans and the environment."
