The experiment was conducted by PETA Australia recently who wanted to determine who got more right swipes on the dating app: vegans or meat-eaters. When the same male, using almost identical content, created one Tinder profile as a vegan and another as a meat-eater, his vegan profile received double the number of right swipes.
In one profile picture, 29-year-old “Peter” wore a shirt that read, “Vegan,” and in the other, he wore a shirt that read, “Bacon.” His other photos showed him at the supermarket buying plants or meat and at the beach with a dog or fishing. His bios were identical for each profile—except for one phrase, which read either “Vegan for life” or “Bacon is life.”
How can we help nonhuman animals as much as possible? A good answer to this question could spare billions from suffering and death, while a bad one could condemn as many to that fate. So it’s worth taking our time to find good answers.
