Pope Francis has addressed the current climate crisis during a summit with multinational oil companies, warning that 'time is running out'.

The Pope said the summit, entitled The Vatican Dialogues: The Energy Transition and Care for our Common Home, was taking place at a 'critical moment' - adding that climate change 'threatens the very future of the human family'.

'We must take action'

According to Vatican News, the Pope said: "We must take action accordingly, in order to avoid perpetuating a brutal act of injustice towards the poor and future generations.

"It is the poor who suffer the worst impacts of the climate crisis."

Pope Francis brought up three points during the summit: 'a just transition to cleaner energy, carbon pricing, and transparency in reporting climate risk'.

'There is still hope'

The Pope ended the meeting stating: "The climate crisis requires 'our decisive action, here and now' and the Church is fully committed to playing her part.

"There is still hope and there remains time to avoid the worst impacts of climate change... provided there is prompt and resolute action."
