A 'vegan comfort food' diner in Minnesota has created what it calls its 'Dirty Secret' - a vegan version of McDonald's Big Mac burger.

J. Selby's in St. Paul's sells the burger which features two burger patties and vegan cheese (from The Herbivorous Butcher) as well as lettuce, pickles, onions, and 'special sauce'.

According to local press this burger is the closest you can get to the fast food original.

Not healthy

Front-of-house manager Lindsey Johnston says the burger is the eatery's bestselling main. "This is not a health food restaurant by any means," Johnston says.

"We’re showing that you can incorporate plant-based foods into your diet without going out of your comfort zone."

The menu - which includes a number of other alternatives to fast food fare - often tricks diners into thinking it is a standard meat-serving eatery.

Other dishes include cauliflower 'wings' served with vegan ranch sauces, and the Soyclone - a soft serve-style ice-cream, the diner's overall most popular treat.
