Plant-based food tech startup Impossible Foods has opened a new factory - in order to upscale production and supply hundreds of restaurants across the States.
According to an Impossible Foods source, the East Oakland-based facility will be able to pump out a staggering 1 million pounds of its plant-based 'meat per month, enough to enough to serve about 1 million of its quarter-pound Impossible Burgers a week.
The company, which is famous for its 'bleeding' burger made from plants, is also reportedly working on a range of other meat and dairy alternatives.
Impossible Foods CEO and Founder Patrick O. Brown said the new plant is part of a plan to make plant-based meat alternatives more accessible.
He said: "Our mission to transform the global food system is urgent, and the opportunity is huge - so we are embarking on one of the most ambitious scale-ups of any startup in the food industry.
"Our goal is to make delicious, sustainable, nutritious, and affordable meat for everyone, as soon as possible."
