Nestlé Launches Vegan Burger Saying 'Plant-Based Is Here To Stay'

According to the global food giant, the new patties 'don't compromise on flavor, texture and cooking experience'

Global food giant Nestlé is launching a new vegan burger in Europe in a bid to capitalize on the plant-based market - which it says is 'here to stay'.

According to Nestlé, the Garden Gourmet Incredible Burger will launch in Europe from this April, first coming to Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden.

The patty is made from soy and wheat, and uses plant extracts from beetroot, carrot, and bell pepper to 'help create the look of a beef burger before, during, and after cooking'.

"These new burgers don’t compromise on flavor, texture and cooking experience," Wayne England, Head of Nestlé's Food Business, said in a statement.

"They underline Nestlé's increased focus on tasty, authentic plant-based food. We believe this trend is here to stay, as consumers look at different ways to enjoy and balance their protein intake and lower the environmental footprint of their diets."

The burger will be found in the chilled or frozen aisle, alongisde Garden Gourmet's existing range of products.

Vegan burger in the US

Later this year, Nestlé will be launching a vegan burger in the United States, which it says will be 'customized for the American consumer'.

The Awesome Burger, which will be rolled out under the Sweet Earth brand, will be sold fresh.

"We're proud of our ability to make healthy and sustainable food accessible to everyone through our trusted brands," added Wayne England. "This includes plant-based food products under our Garden Gourmet range in Europe and the Sweet Earth brand in the U.S."
