Vegan brand Gardein has announced it will arrive in the UK at the beginning of 2019.

According to an Instagram post, products will be available to buy from supermarket Sainsbury's, from January.

Gardein has not yet specified which of its products will be available - its range includes mock meats like vegan chicken strips, ground beef, barbecue wings, and sausages.

Vegan-friendly food

"We're bringing a whole new world of vegan-friendly food to the UK very soon," the brand said in an Instagram post.

"For clean eating, guilty pleasures, and everything in between, there's Gardein. Our awesome plant-based alternatives are good for you and good for the planet too.

"Gardein has 90 percent less impact on the planet and uses fewer resources in production. If you're thinking about your new year's resolutions and all of this sounds like moo-sic to your ears, come find us in your local Sainsburys this January."

Vegan Sainsbury's

Gardein joins a growing number of vegan products Sainsbury's has added to its shelves over the last year, including Naturli's Food's vegan mince and burger, both of which can be found in the meat aisle.

According to the retailer, it has seen an explosion in meat-free sales over the last year.

"We are seeing an increasing interest from our customers in plant-based foods, with sales of our current meat-free range growing 20 percent each week," James Hamilton, Meat-Free and Ready Meals Buyer at Sainsbury's, said. "We're always exploring new ways to offer even greater choice, quality and value."
