Since having a heart attack six months ago, writer, director, and comedian Kevin Smith has reported a 51-pound weight loss as a result of switching to a plant-based lifestyle.

Mission completed

According to Smith's Instagram post on the matter, he embarked on the lifestyle change after his doctor told him 'the best thing' he could do to avoid future health issues would be to lose 50 pounds.

He wrote in his post that he is 'ecstatic to have reached this chunky milestone'.

Appearing on the Joe Rogan podcast early this year, Smith told Rogan that the heart attack he suffered - commonly called 'the widowmaker' - is the result of complete artery blockage and has a survival rate of just 20 percent.

Now, he reports that he's the lightest he’s been since high school - and included evidence of his newly 'normal' blood pressure in the post.

'Vegan astronaut'

Smith credited his daughter Harley Quinn - a passionate ethical vegan - for helping him make the change.

He wrote: "I also wanna thank my kid @harleyquinnsmith - the little vegan astronaut who explored this meatless/milkless galaxy ahead of me, leading by example."
