The CEO of food tech startup JUST has confirmed his company will be launching a clean meat product this year - and that it 'probably' launch in restaurants first.
JUST's Josh Tetrick made the comments in an interview with Plant Based News' Founder Klaus Mitchell.
Back in 2017, Tetrick announced his company was working on creating clean meat - which is built using animal cells. Foetal blood plasma harvested from unborn calves is often used - though some brands including JUST say they have developed technology to avoid this.
The product is therefore not vegan, though some vegans choose to support the concept, as it has potential to reduce the number of animals slaughtered for food.

According to Tetrick, he doesn't yet know what clean meat product will be available first, whether it will be beef or chicken.
He said: "It's still unclear - we're still working through it. It will depend on the quality of the product and what the economics end up being."
When asked where the product will be available, he answered: "Probably restaurants."
Earlier this year, Tetrick - and other clean meat pioneers - expressed concerns that regulatory issues could cause delay in the availability of clean meat products.
