Joey Carbstrong, one of the biggest names in the vegan movement, has been interviewed by Plant Based News' co-founder, Robbie Lockie, for the latest PBN podcast.

The podcast delves into Joey's past as a former gang member, his addiction to drugs and alcohol, and his experiences with food.

A 'real awakening'

A 'real awakening' is how Joey describes his release from prison, helping him to curb his addiction whilst on parol, and acting as a stepping-stone to the very moment he announced: "I'm going to go vegan tomorrow," - which coincidentally, fell on World Vegan Day back in 2013.

Joey said: “When you become a vegan, you’re realizing you’ve been causing harm to innocent beings and you’ve tried your best as far as practical to stop causing harm.

"But that is a neutral position; it doesn’t mean you’re doing something fantastic, it just means you’ve stopped doing something horrific or contributing to something that’s horrific."

You can listen to the podcast below.

Joey's activism

The Australian activist is well known for his appearances on TV show Good Morning Britain, where he has challenged Piers Morgan's infamous anti-vegan views.

He also debated with celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson, who argued 'veganism is a fashionable bandwagon'.
