Lots of high street retailers are making vegan-friendly homeware

Animal rights charity PETA has honored a number of high street brands in its inaugural Vegan Homeware Awards.

According to PETA, the awards 'celebrate the best designs and innovations for a cruelty-free home', and were established to recognize the growing demand for 'compassionate and sustainable' homeware.

Winners

Rockett St George won Best Vegan Sofa for its vintage faux-cowhide design and Debenhams was recognized for its innovative microfiber technology in the Best Down-Free Bedding category.

The Best Silk-Free Sheets award went to Habitat for its luxe Egyptian cotton Sateen range. Ikea was rewarded with the Best Faux-Sheepskin Rug award for its Tejn rug.

Other winners included Šimon Kern, who received the Innovation Award for his Beleaf Chair – made from recycled leaves and bio-resin – and vegan interior designer Emily Turnbull, who took home the Influencer Award.

Demand

PETA Director, Elisa Allen, said: "Home is where the heart is – and compassionate consumers are driving the demand for beautiful vegan homeware.

"Forward-thinking designers are experimenting with sustainable and cutting-edge vegan materials and offering a great variety of cruelty-free choices to suit every home and budget."
