Iceland Launches Vegan Lamb Koftas And Pulled Pork Burgers

The frozen food supermarket has been expanding its plant-based range in recent times, as more people opt for animal-free foods

UK supermarket chain Iceland has added new vegan meat products to its plant-based range.

The frozen food giant now offers No Lamb and Mint Kofta Skewers  (£2.00, 5 x 50g) and Pulled No Pork Burgers (£2.00, 2 x 113g).

According to the retailer, demand for meat-free food has soared in recent years, and choosing 'vegan food for a summer BBQ is no longer a niche choice'.

"Iceland's Pulled No Pork Burger offers customers the chance to take a big bite out of the BBQ festivities this summer, with meat-replicating pulled jackfruit flawlessly mimicking the texture of pulled pork," an Iceland spokesperson said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.

"Also joining the vegan range is Iceland's No Lamb and Mint Kofta Skewers (£2.00, 5 x 50g), with a delicate blend of garlic, chili, lemon, mint and spices, these hearty, plant-based kebabs have everything you would expect in a traditional kofta with none of the meat."

'People want more vegan food'

Speaking about the launch of its extended vegan range last year, Iceland’s Head Chef Neil Nugent told The Guardian: "We had tremendous success with the No Bull Burger and it's clear our customers want more from us.

"In creating this range, we have embraced the nation’s love for alternative plant-based foods in an innovative and exciting way.

"The growth of the vegan food market in the UK has been rapid, with 56 percent of adults now saying that they are adopting vegan behaviour when conducting their supermarket shop."
