Heavyweight Boxer Bryant Jennings Credits Vegan Diet For 'Feeling Young'

The Philadelphia fighter shared his dietary habits, saying he eats peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, quinoa, avocado, a lot of fruit and vegetables, and homemade burgers

Philadelphia heavyweight boxer Bryant Jennings has spoken out about the benefits of his vegan diet.

Jennings, who adopted the diet in 2015, made the comments before his defeat to Oscar Rivas this week. The referee stopped the fight in the 12th round after Rivas knocked Bryant down then mounted a fierce attack.

He told The Guardian he adopted a plant-based diet for health reasons - after being vegetarian, saying the choice has been 'really great' for him.

Vegan diet

"[I eat] lots of peanut butter and jelly, oatmeal, quinoa, avocado, a lot of fruit and vegetables. I make my own burgers from scratch with chickpeas, black beans, lentils, quinoa, flax seeds, chia seeds," he said. "It's all whole foods.

"I'm not fighting to prove anything.I'm just proud of who I am. When I have a great performance I say, 'see, I guess I don't need meat'.

"When I lift something that’s heavy that people say I couldn’t do, I say, 'see, I guess I don’t need meat'."
