The environmental movement, Fridays For Future, has organized a global strike against climate change to take place on March 15 - inspired by teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg.

Global Climate Strike For Future's Facebook event currently has more than 1,900 attendees, with over 3,000 people interested in the demonstration.

'The rules have to be changed'

In a 'call to the youth of the world', Global Climate Strike For Future said: "Why should we be studying for a future that soon may be no more, when no one is doing anything to save that future? And what is the point of learning facts when the most important facts clearly mean nothing to our society?

"Today we use 100 million barrels of oil every single day. There are no politics to change that. There are no rules to keep that oil in the ground. We can't save the world by playing by the rules. Because the rules have to be changed."

'You can't just sit around'

The global strike is inspired by 16-year-old climate activist, Greta Thunberg, who went viral for sitting in front of the Swedish parliament every school day for three weeks, to protest against the lack of action on the climate crisis.

Thunberg, who said at an EU conference: "You can't just sit around waiting for hope to come," pushed for people to strike in front of their closest town hall, every Friday.
