Coffee giant, Dunkin', formerly known as Dunkin' Donuts, is looking at adding plant-based proteins to its menus, according to the company's CEO.

During CNBC'S Squawk on the Street, Dunkin was asked when consumers will get to see 'non-meat alternatives' on the breakfast menu, following the success of Beyond Meat entering the US stock market.

'A 'better-for-you platform'

"We're all headed into a 'better-for-you' platform," said the company's CEO, David Hoffmann. "We're going to look at plant-based proteins as well, going forward."

Similarly, Hoffmann told Yahoo Finance the brand is already in discussion with plant-based partners, adding: "We're not going to tell you who but you'll see that up on the menu here shortly."

Vegan options

Hoffmann also hinted at the idea of adding a plant-based sausage to the breakfast menu, saying such a product 'would be dynamite' if crumbled into the company's 'egg bowls'.

Dunkin' does currently offer a variety of plant-based options, including Bagels, Hash Browns, English Muffins and coffee beverages made with dairy-free milk.
