Health-food giant, Dr. Praeger's Purely Sensible Foods, best known for its veggie burgers, has ventured into the faux meat market, after announcing the launch of its vegan 'perfect' burger.

The new plant-based patty, which is free from gluten and soy, is primarily made from pea-protein and is infused with sweet potato, butternut squash, beet, and carrot.

'A tasty vegan burger'

"The meat-alternative burger market lacks a tasty, vegan burger that contains a short and simple ingredient list," said Larry Praeger of Dr. Praeger's.

"The Perfect Burger provides all the flavor you want from a traditional beef burger, but with clean plant-based protein and ingredients you can taste with each flavorful bite."

20g of plant-based protein

The food company also state its Perfect Burger, which provides 20g of plant-based protein, contains 15 percent less sodium and 22 percent less fat per serving than the leading 'meat-y' veggie burger - which news outlets claim to be Beyond Meat's vegan burger.

Dr. Praeger's states the patty is already being sold to its foodservice clients and aims to make it available in around 1,000 restaurants or food sellers by the end of 2019 - with plans to try and sell the product on grocery shelves.
