A new feature-length documentary which debuts this week looks at the connection between religion and veganism.

According to filmmaker Thomas Jackson, A Prayer for Compassion follows him 'on a quest that crisscrosses America, and takes him to Morocco for the UN Climate Conference and throughout the Indian subcontinent'.

He asks the question: "Can compassion grow to include all beings? Can people who identify as religious or spiritual come to embrace the call to include all human and nonhuman beings in our circle of respect and caring and love?"

A number of notable vegans appear in the film, including Bruce Friedrich, Roman Catholic and director of the Good Food Institute, Milton Mills, MD, urgent care physician and Seventh Day Adventist, and Will Tuttle, PhD, author of The World Peace Diet and former Zen monk among others.

According to Main Street Vegan, whose production arm joined forces with Jackson to make the film: "A Prayer for Compassion calls on people of faith and spiritual seekers of every stripe to come together to bring about a world in which 'the wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them'."

A test screening will take place on November 10 in Chicago.
