Chicks Discarded Alive On German Chicken Farm

New Animal Equality Investigation Exposes Shocking Animal Abuse At farm In Lower Saxony, Germany

Berlin, May 4th 2017. Hidden camera footage exposes shocking animal abuse on a farm raising chicks for meat in northern Germany. Dead and injured chicks laying between others who are still alive. A worker pins a chick down with a type of gripper/gripping pliers, steps onto the chick presumably to kill it. Injured and weak animals are thrown into buckets and wheel barrows – some of them are still alive. In the buckets and wheel barrows the chicks are literally buried alive under piles of dead chicks thrown on top of them.

One particularly shocking scene shows a worker repeatedly hitting a chick with the end of a shovel, presumably injuring it heavily and throwing the chick into a waste container while still alive. Twelve hours later, the chick was found alive by our investigators.

Animal Equality has pressed charges against this farm.

“The chick had a broken leg and one of his wings was so badly injured that the bone came out of it – presumably due to the heavy hitting“, says Ria Rehberg, co-executive director of Animal Equality in Germany. “He’d been left to die in the wheel barrow on top of the dead bodies of his fellow species. This cruelty towards such a helpless, innocent being is simply shocking.”

One year ago, a chicken was found alive in a skip on a Devon farm by Animal Equality investigators. She was rescued and named Gloria - a factory farm survivor. Her remarkable story made international headlines, but now we must ask how many birds are being thrown away alive on chicken farms around the world.
