Jackie Day has contributed something important to the vegan movement with her debut book, The Vegan Way: 21 Days to a Happier, Healthier Plant-Based Lifestyle That Will Transform Your Home, Your Diet, and You.
I was greatly anticipating this book since I am a fan of Jackie’s My Vegan Journal blog. It exceeded even my high expectations.
Recently, Mayim Bialik, the star of such shows as The Big Bang Theory and Blossom, made a splash when she sang the book’s praises on her Facebook page. She remarked on how the book helps you see that being a vegan isn’t as 'difficult as it might seem.
Others chimed in, including Marla Rose of Vegan Street who observed: “This is a great, very helpful and informative book that is both super accessible and educational. I love the tone and the approach of the author, which is to speak honestly but with a warm, unpretentious voice, kind of like the best sort of coach.”
That’s exactly the magic of this book!
In The Vegan Way, Jackie offers easily actionable tips and ethical insights for both novice vegans and those who have been wholeheartedly committed to a plant-based lifestyle for years.
She does it in a way that makes you want to come to the party of veganism and enjoy all the wonderful things that the lifestyle serves up.
When I was growing up, one of my favorite books was The Everything Book: A Treasury of Things to Make and Do by Eleanor Graham Vance. I spent many happy hours with the book.
Every time I used it, it offered a different experience and new fun memory. It seemed to be a endless resource of fantastic information and fun things to learn.
The Vegan Way evokes the same sort of feeling. It’s a book that you want to keep on the most accessible shelf and return to often.
Jackie takes us on the day-by-day journey of veganism. It’s not simply a book that will help you stay on some sort of fad diet. Quite the opposite is true.
It is a comprehensive guidebook, a personable book that empowers you to plan our transition to veganism in only 21 days.
Within a month of starting the book, you can easily and painlessly make the vegan transformation.
This book doesn’t waste the reader’s time on excess. It focuses on three important reasons that many people go vegan.
It encourages compassion for animals, a respect for the planet, and a dedication to caring for one’s health as best as possible.
The Vegan Way offers delicious recipes. (Trust me! You have to try the Three Sisters Chili.) However, it isn’t primarily a cookbook. It also provides the information you need to enjoy dining out with friends and family members as a vegan.
It tackles what you need to know when perusing ingredient lists on food labels while grocery shopping. It helps readers find alternatives to clothes made from animals’ skin.
It addresses all the little things you may have wanted to know about the vegan lifestyle but were maybe afraid to ask.
The book feels as though Jackie has taken you by the hand and given you the information you need to know to achieve the goal of becoming a vegan. In doing so, the author also finds profundity in the things she shares along the way.
With the wisdom that’s revealed in the warm and one-of-a-kind voice that comes through in all Jackie Day’s writing, I don’t doubt that the book will inspire many people to start down the path to veganism.
Finally, The Vegan Way is a helpful book for anyone who wants to be more health-minded, compassionate and eco-conscious. (Shouldn’t we all nurture those qualities within ourselves?)
