Fast-food chain, Blaze Pizza, which is well known for being backed by celebrity basketball player LeBron James, has welcomed spicy vegan chorizo to its menu.
The eatery, which already offers its vegan customers dairy-free cheese, tested the meatless chorizo out in several restaurants last year.
Announcing the launch of its latest plant-based offering on Instagram, Blaze said: "Vegan Blazers—your day has come! Vegan Spicy Chorizo is now available at our U.S. locations!"
According to USA Today, the company's Executive Chef, Brad Kent, said: "I wanted to create a vegan topping that pizza lovers would enjoy regardless of their dietary preferences.
"Since there wasn’t anything on the market that was flavorful or spicy enough for us, I started developing the recipe by bringing in over 20 different chilies and other spices."
The meatless chorizo, which is prepared in-house, is now available for no extra charge and has been reportedly been a popular choice with non-vegans.
Kent added: "We knew we had a hit on our hands when meat-eating guests, and team members, started ordering it as the stand-alone protein on their pizzas."
