62 Year Old Vegan Athlete Smashes World Records And Dispels Protein Myth

The plant-based athlete will be competing again next month

A 62-year-old powerlifter from Arizona, who already has 13 world records under her belt, will be competing to break a bench press record next month.

Rocky Luedeker, who started weightlifting competitively four years ago, follows a plant-based diet. 


The athlete is also dispelling the protein myth.

"A common myth is we don’t have enough protein, and we have more than enough protein," she told media outlet Arizona Family.

"But it takes more than just protein to become a high-performance athlete. It takes the right attitude. 

"If I don't get it this time, I will practice harder and get it next time."

The athlete loves beans and rice, and eats lettuce every day.


The 62-year-old currently has 13 world records and 26 state and national records.

"My best curl is 45 pounds, my best squat is 124 pounds, my best deadlift is 184," she said.

The athlete is hoping to encourage others to follow suit lifting weights.

"I'm doing it! If I'm doing it, they can do it!" Luedeker said.

"It'd be nice to see more ladies my age doing things. I'd really like to see that."

She will be competing to break a bench press record in Las Vegas in November.

Bianca, Luedeker's daughter, is also a powerlifter, and currently traning for the 2024 Olympics.

Talking about her mother, Bianca said: "Her deadlift is twice her weight. Her weight is 90 pounds. 

"She's deadlifting 182, and I think about how long it took me to get to that point. It was really hard."
