A recent study of Australia's eating habits determined that, as of 2016, 2.1 million Australians identified as meat-free eaters.
This amounted to 11.2 percent of the country’s population at the time of the study.
Additionally, as of March of 2016, 12.4 percent indicated that they ate an all, or mostly, meat-free diet.
The study determined that those who ate a meat-free or meat-reduced diet were more likely to live in major cities than rural areas.
The cities with the highest number of such eaters were Sydney, Hobart, and Melbourne.
Industry Communications Director at Roy Morgan Research, Norman Morris said: "If they have not already, supermarkets and eateries would be wise to revisit their vegetarian-friendly options to ensure they are catering adequately for this growing - and potentially lucrative - consumer segment."
