A Russian entrepreneur plans to revolutionize the vegan movement in India by bringing plant-based snacks to the country.

Former model Elena Shifrina, a vegan herself, will be introducing her company's BioFoodLab healthy snack bars to the Indian market in a bid to introduce children and the general public to healthy eating.

The company, which sells 2.5 million bars a month in Russia, produces snacks which only contain fruits, nuts, berries, and spices - and no additives or preservatives.

Shifrina has so far expanded her business venture in the UK, UAE, China, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Japan.

Vegan

Discussing her vegan diet, the 34-year-old businesswoman told news outlet the Hindustan Times: "I don’t understand why we need to kill animals, if everything that our body needs can be found in plants?

"Stereotypes about proper nutrition still exist.

"People have queries on what they should eat and why. We offer ideas and solutions to them."

Appealing

Shifrina, who opened BioFoodLab in 2012 after noticing the lack of all-natural vegan snacks in Russia, is now turning to India to branch out.

She says: "The Indian market is particularly appealing to us for many reasons – its large number of vegetarians, the value Indians place on animal life, and the increasing economic relations between Russia and India, as both the countries are leading economies of BRICS.

"Our task is to make sure our children eat right, and to pass our experiences on to new generations."
