Vegan sausages which are so similar to traditional meat that they could 'fool carnivores' - according to their maker - are set to launch in Sainsbury's this month.
The Meatless Farm Co's new bangers are made from pea, soy, and rice proteins and are flavored with chicory root, caramelized carrot, and herbs and spices.
"From butties to bangers and mash, we're a nation of sausage lovers, and The Meatless Farm Co's new range won't disappoint," a spokesperson said in a statement sent to Plant Based News.
"Each fresh sausage is packed full of juicy flavor, herby aromas and a meaty texture that will leave your carnivorous chums fooled during barbecue season.
"The Meatless Farm Co plant-based sausages are a flavorsome, vitamin-rich alternative to meat without any of the nasty stuff. They are good for you and good for the planet, a surprisingly tasty change."
The sausages will join the company's burgers and mince, which can already be found on the supermarket's shelves after launching last October.
"We have spent the past two years developing a product that is delicious and unique in its category," Morten Toft Bech, Founder of The Meatless Farm Co, said at the time of the launch. We are entering the market at a time when demand is growing and meat-free alternatives are becoming increasingly mainstream.
"We champion texture and taste, offering an everyday solution for the UK's 22 million flexitarians wanting to still enjoy family favorite dishes but just eat a little less meat, alongside catering for vegetarians and vegans who are looking for tasty alternatives."
Speaking about adding vegan options to its shelves earlier this year, James Hamilton, Meat-Free and Ready Meals Buyer at Sainsbury's, said: "We are seeing an increasing interest from our customers in plant-based foods, with sales of our current meat-free range growing 20 percent each week.
"We're always exploring new ways to offer even greater choice, quality and value."
The sausages will be available in Sainsbury's stores nationwide from mid-May, RRP £2.50.
