The festival expects to attract thousands of people

A major vegan festival is returning to Hong Kong this weekend.

The second Conscious Festival is a vegan and low waste event that organizers say looks to empower people to 'live, consume, work and travel more consciously in terms of environmental social responsibility'.

The two-day event, which was organized by Green is the New Black, brings together speakers, brands, and entrepreneurs from all over the world, who are making change in their industries.

Vegan event

The annual event, which originated in Singapore, drew 4,500 attendees last year and looks to top that this year with more than 80 mindful brand pop-ups, 20 edutainment booths by NGOs, a series of activism through art, exhibitions, mini-workshops and speakers as well as a lively atmosphere with local bands and entertainers.

This year will also be the first that The Conscious Festival will be entirely vegan. Plant-based festival fare will be the star attraction of all the menus at the event, offering everything from vegan pizza to cacao based desserts and even a natural wine bar.

Local sustainable food initiatives like Rooftop Republic and Food Folk will also be onsite showing attendees just how easy it is to eat green in Hong Kong.

'Positively impacting the planet'

Festival organizer Stephanie Dickson founded the festival on the belief that it’s possible to live our modern lives while positively impacting our planet and community.

"We want people to leave with tangible actions they can do on a daily basis, and show that sustainability is accessible and easy in Hong Kong," she said.

"Deep dive with our talks, edu-tainment activities and interactive art – and learn that going green can be fun and easy and easy. There is power in numbers, and by taking individual #LittleGreenSteps we can collectively change the world."

Small steps

#LittleGreenSteps are the foundation upon which the parent company, Green is the New Black (GITNB) was built. The steps encourage individuals and businesses to live more consciously by making small changes for maximum impact before it's too late.

"At a time when some thought leaders believe it will be the end of our civilization by 2030, it has become pressing to raise our consciousness on how to better connect with ourselves and with the planet," added Paula Miquelis, co-founder of GITNB.

"Through educating young to old, we hope to give a sense of peacefulness and answers to big questions such as – is it already too late?"
