A leading plant-based medic and infectious disease specialist has blasted the 'vultures' who are trying to exploit people's fears to sell unproven supplements amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Dr. Michael Greger is an internationally recognized speaker on nutrition, food safety, and public health issues, Dr. Greger is the author of Bird Flu: A Virus Of Our Own Hatching, which looks at infectious diseases and human's role in them - as well as how we can protect ourselves.

In this exclusive Plant Based News interview, Dr. Greger discussed how there are always companies who will use times like the current pandemic to sell products.

'Spammy bandwagon'

"People are jumping on this spammy bandwagon of supplements to boost your immune system kind of thing," he told PBN. "This is no surprise, and we've seen this every pandemic going back a century where there are these vultures lining up to take advantage, to exploit people's fears.

"Unfortunately, one of the primary sources of misinformation in the United States, is coming straight from the top, touting unproven remedies like these new malaria drugs, which led one poor sap to actually kill themselves taking some aquarium cleaner that happened to have this chloroquine drug in it.

"So it's critical at this time that [we follow] common-sense advice to keeping healthy - and that means in your diet, keeping centered around whole plant foods, getting sufficient sleep, stress management, staying connected albeit remotely to friends and family, and exercise.

"These are the foundations of basic immunity that we should be pushing as well as concentrating on overcoming COVID-19 through social distancing, staying safe, staying home, as well as preparing for the next pandemic by changing the way we treat and eat animals."

Dr. Greger will be speaking at a free online health conference later this month.
