A husband and wife duo have set their sights on banishing animal products from the fitness industry - by creating an innovative line of plant-based supplements.
Paul and Jillian Salomone, who describe their previous lifestyle as 'unhealthy', overhauled their own lives in 2013, when they decided to ditch animal foods.
This move would result in major life changes. The pair became athletes in bodybuilding and powerlifting with team Plantbuilt, a group of vegan athletes that travels and competes at a high level.
Then in 2017, after learning about the paucity of plant-based supplementation on the market, they decided to create their own - and Elevate Nutrition was born.*
Taste and performance
"We are building a line of supplements that make animal products a thing of the past. We see a future, where plant-based nutrition is no longer an alternative, but the go-to choice," they said.
"The biggest problem of the plant-based supplements on the market is that people associate them with bad tasting formulas and ineffective results. Our plan to grow and scale our business is to appeal to the mass market by creating a full suite of products that appeal to the mainstream, and are geared toward modern fitness, and optimized for taste and effectiveness."
Speaking about dairy-based whey protein, they say: "A study conducted by Dartmouth Medical School suggests that the hormones sourced with dairy products can be a source of mitogenic and androgenic progestins that drive prostate and breast cancer. Consuming less animal-based proteins could improve both environmental and health factors."
Elevate Nutrition already offers a range of products, including a line of dessert-flavored protein powders sweetened with monk fruit and made from hemp and yellow peas.
Current flavors include Chocolate Brownie and Vanilla Milkshake. New flavors set to launch include Mint Chocolate Chip, Frosted Cinnamon Bun, Raspberry Cheesecake, and Orange Creamsicle.
The brand also offers a line of Branch Chain Amino Acids derived from plant-based sources with flavors like Coconut Lime and Fruit Punch. A new line of Pre-Workout Energy formula is set to launch soon in Rainbow Candy, Cherry Ice Pop, and Watermelon Candy options.
The pair are now crowdfunding to bring their vision to fruition, aiming to raise $1,070,000 by February 2020 at $2 per share, offering equity/part ownership into the company from $300 per investor.
If they hit the target, a number of new products will be brought to market. These include Naturally Sourced Omega 3 DHA/EPA (alternative to fish oil), Plant-Based Mass Gainers, and Gelatin Free Gummy Vitamins among others.
